Valentine’s Day 2009.
Today – like most people know – is Valentine’s Day! Ten years ago, I sent this girl I fancied a card, she replied she was with someone else. Since then I didn’t encounter any females I liked as much. If I could send someone a Valentine I would go for Katie from Australia, she is someone whose input I appreciate a lot! Or how about Nina from Canada, she’s nice! Not to mention Vanessa also from Canada, even though she is more than I can handle. Australian and North American women experience Valentine’s Day differently than a Dutch woman would, still people here will get to know the true meaning of Valentine’s Day too some day I reckon. When I sent this girl a Valentine in 1999, Valentine’s Day was far less accepted in The Netherlands, that it used to be kind of odd to send someone a Valentine. For instance in the Netherlands some kids like to ask for candy on Halloween, even though nobody here knows what Halloween is all about. Valentine’s Day is a relatively new phenomenon in this country. But it is fun! I wish I were younger, and free to determine whom I would be friends with. When will we have Saint Patrick’s Day here?!

Silverlight.
I bought a book about Silverlight 2.0, but that I find it too complicated to be fun. Still, Silverlight, the browser plug-in from Microsoft, which is being used to do graphics and sound like the Flash plug-in used to do, is very interesting. Maybe if I buy an easier to understand book I will be able to build my own Silverlight application. After all I did build C# programs and have some experience with ASP.NET! I found this old Silverlight 1.0 sample on the Microsoft website, which I put up on my Test Site. I plan to use this sample Silverlight application to make a slide show for on my aljo-online.com website. People who would want to see a Silverlight page will have to install the plug-in first, which only takes a few minutes. I would really like to get to know more about Silverlight, and if I could program my own Silverlight application to put on display on my website. A Silverlight application online is nice because lots of people will get to enjoy it, it is not like a program you once wrote which is only parked on your hard disk.
